The Copernican System, or more generally, the heliocentric model, assumes that the Sun is at the 'center' of the planetary orbits.  The illustration above, published in 1639, also includes the 'Medicean Planets', the four major moons of Jupiter discovered by Galileo and announced in his Starry Messenger (1610).  The above illustration appeared in Boulliau's Philolaus (Amsterdam 1639).  For other illustration of the heliocentric model Click Here.
