Ph.D. University of Florida Research Foundation Professor (2017-2020)
I recently (July 2014) published a book with colleagues entitled: Fear of Crime in the United States: Causes, Consequences and Contradictions. (click on title for more information)
I also study the impact of reactions to crime among policymakers and practitioners. Specifically I conduct program evaluations of longstanding, new and/or innovative approaches to reducing crime. I also study the people who are affected by the juvenile and criminal justice systems. As our incarcerated population remains in the millions and budgets continue to tighten, the justice system is in need of expert advice and research that can help improve the way it does its work.
In early 2018, our new book Encountering Correctional Populations: A Practical Guide for Researchers (with Kate Fox and Susan Turner) will be published by Univerisity of California Press.
