Faye V. Harrison is a social anthropologist who specializes in the politics and political economy of social inequalities and human rights. She received her Ph.D. from Stanford University (1982). A former Lindsay Young Professor at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, she is currently Professor of Anthropologyand African American Studies at the University of Florida-Gainesville. She has done extensive field research in the U.S,, the U.K., and the Caribbean, and her research interests and professional activities have also taken her to many other parts of the world, including Denmark, Mexico, South
Africa, India, and China. She has published extensively, including Outsider Within: Reworking Anthropology in the Global Age (2008). She chaired the International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences’ Commission on the Anthropology of Women for many years and she currently serves on the IUAES Executive Committee.
